Internet-Based Course

If you would prefer to complete the majority of your pre-filing bankruptcy counseling online, you can do so using our "Choices" course. The Internet portion of the pre-filing counseling session will be followed by a brief follow-up phone call with a Certified Financial Counselor. Read the following instructions and download the forms at the bottom of this page.

Before you receive your Choices log-in and password, you will need to send us the following:

• Affidavit for Pre-filing Bankruptcy Counseling
• Privacy Notice
• Statement of Counseling Services
• Copy of driver license or state issued ID card
• $50 registration fee

During the Internet portion of the course you will cover:

• Education regarding financial management and bankruptcy
• A budget and financial net worth analysis
• Pros and cons of Chapter 7 and Chapter 13
• A review of possible alternatives to bankruptcy

Once the Internet portion of Choices has been completed, a Certified Financial Counselor will contact you by phone or email for a brief review. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss factors that caused your financial situation. You and your counselor will then develop a plan to avoid financial problems in the future.

Once you have completed the online and telephone portions, the certificate of completion will be sent to you by email and mail.
